Moochy C Album review “R.A.S.B.”

Considering Moochy C resides in the Mini Apple (like yours truly), I tried so hard to enjoy this album. But by the time I reached the fifteenth and final track, I had to force myself to stay awake due to the monotony of “R.A.S.B.”
Deep struggles line the album’s theme, but Moochy C fails to really drive any of his feelings home. With the death of his mother, his sister’s pain and suffering, and fatherhood issues all rearing their unfortunate faces, I never felt captivated at all throughout the album. Armed with strong lyrical content, Moochy’s delivery lacks energy that would have helped emphasize his pain. Although I feel for Moochy, I did not feel his groove.
“R.A.S.B.” lays out stripped-down, low end beats for Moochy C to flow behind, dropping only a few highlights. “So Hood” provides a slow, soulful groove laced with Roots Manuva-like synths. Flynch and Low Down push this track into another realm that no other song on the album can reach. “Cabrini” touches on the hardships of growing up in Chicago’s Cabrini Green; its beat is lethal to any subwoofer.
“Daddy Will Always Love You” is this album’s apparent single, yet may be the hardest to listen to. Moochy C’s ode to his kids is promising throughout his verses, yet the chorus (provided by the R&B crooning of Denweddie and Flynch), negates any possibility of this track being likable. The much-out-of-place chorus incongruously stands out like a neon-colored fannypack would if it were strapped around Suge Knight’s immense waist.
While “R.A.S.B.’s” intentions are bold and heartfelt, the lack of versatility dooms the album from the get go. With so much substance but so little style, Moochy C deserves a grade much like his moniker.
