Give us a little history on Heat?
We’ve been blazing mics and crowds throughout the Twin Cities for a little under 3 years now , NENA BROWN, PMS, and CESSAMILIA, we are strong and sincere lyricists, with diverse sounds who are not afraid to just do us.
How many members are in the group?
3
How did you all become a group?
Through a higher power. We were all doing our own thing…. [????]brought us together to work on a song and we’ve been together ever since.
How did you come up with the name Heat and why?
Our homeboy Mike gave us the name and it stuck. It represents how we bring lyrical fire to the stage.
How many albums do you have out?
1
Where are you all from?
Cessimilia and Nena Brown are from Minneapolis , MN ; PMS is from Rock Island, Il
Who are some of your inspirations in hip hop?
As female emcees, we are first off inspired by all the premiere women like Queen Latifah, Salt –N-Pepa, MC Lyte, – they were proof the emceeing wasn’t just for the fellas. Then there are dope emcees like Tupac, Nas, JayZ, Lauryn Hill and Beanie and artists with flavor and soul who aren’t afraid to experiment with their music and sound like Mary J. Blige and Kanye and Common
Describe your sound?
Describe it? Can you describe the sound your heart makes every time it beats? I mean our stuff is real, raw and necessary. No gimmicks. You hear it like we lived it. How we feel it straight from our beating hearts – pure.
What can people expect to see at a Heat performance?
They can expect to see, feel and dwell in HEAT…that raw, uncontained fire that we ignite every time we step on the stage, every time we grab a mic. The fire that comes from our passion for music – to be able to deliver something that we – and the people want – is contagious. So expect to be blazed.
What separates you all from other rap groups?
We could say talent or charisma or originality. But that’s a give n . What separates us is that we are real, we are not riding gimmicks, selling sex (though we are sexy) are pretending to be what we are not. We represent the truth. That’s rare nowadays in this commercial society, but, we are not afraid to be who we are…
What producers/artists have you all worked with?
Producers: Big Head Entertainment, Platinum Mind Entertainment, Artists: Contact, Debra G of Copestetic, Alex of Root City, Sandman, Mayhem, isis, Stonepilla…
Are there any other female rap groups coming out of MN?
Not like us. Not that we are aware of.
Do you think other rappers in the MN scene give you all the props you deserve?
No, but that’s just how Minnesota is due to the fact that there is no real unity. We wish more artists and labels would network together and get a movement going like you see on the East, West coasts and down South. There are a few artists building that, but we need to be more focused and we’re down for it.
What are the goals for Heat?
Longevity. And we want to help put Minnesota on the map and represent real women (no fabrications necessary).
Anything else you would like to say?
We just want to bring something new to hip hop…you know, touch on some things no other female rappers have.
Also, look out for the Mix CD — Contents Under Pressure.
It droped mid June of 2006
